Old Town Bluffton Gets New Street Signs Package
- City Wayfinding
Old Town Bluffton is a historical area located within the city of Bluffton, South Carolina, which is situated a short drive from Hilton Head Island and Savannah, Georgia. It has long been a tourist destination because of its unique charm, elaborate art galleries, and quaint shops. Visiting this area of town just got more comfortable, as officials recently announced that Old Town Bluffton gets a new street signs package, thanks to a matching grant from Preserve America.
The project includes some directional signs located at the intersections of U.S. 278 and Bluffton Road; U.S. 278 and Burnt Church Road; May River and Buck Island roads; Burnt Church and Alljoy Roads; and Bluffton Parkway and Bluffton Road. These directional signs point the way for visitors to find Old Town Bluffton as part of a wayfinding project designed to help people navigate this historic district.
In addition to directional signs, 12 new informational kiosks will be installed throughout Old Town Bluffton as well. These kiosks will include a map of the district, along with historical information and old photographs that people can use to pinpoint critical attractions and learn more about the area.
The project doesn’t stop there, as it will eventually include 48 new street signs at the various intersections within Old Town Bluffton. The specially designed new signs were by the town council and will provide a more nostalgic look than the ones currently being utilized.
The goal of this wayfinding project is to enhance tourism in the district while making it easier for visitors to navigate streets on foot or by bicycle. Although not yet completed, the signs already in place have received rave reviews from tourists and locals alike.
